You just received PCS orders to Hawaii and probably have many questions. Hawaii is considered OCONUS, but it&#8217;s not considered an overseas tour.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-many-travel-days-do-i-get-pcs-to-hawaii\"><\/span>How many travel days do I get PCS to Hawaii?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A traveler who is authorized PCS travel by POV is allowed one day of travel for the first 400 miles between authorized points. You will be responsible for either packing\/unpacking and transporting your belongings to your new location yourself or hiring your own commercial moving company.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-long-is-ppm-reimbursement\"><\/span>How long is ppm reimbursement?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>How long does it take to process a DITY MOVE\/PPM (Personally Procured Move)\/Postal reimbursement? Our office is required to process these reimbursements within 7-14 business days. Once we complete your paperwork, we physically take it over to finance to be processed.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-much-does-military-pay-for-dity-move\"><\/span>How much does military pay for DITY move?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The DITY program is a voluntary program which allows Service members, or a deceased member&#8217;s next of kin, to move their HHG personally and be paid an amount equal to 80 percent of what it would have cost the government.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-the-navy-pay-for-you-to-move\"><\/span>Does the Navy pay for you to move?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The military will pay them to relocate their family and their belongings to the new station. A PCS move can be stressful and exhausting, but it is a regular occurrence for most military families.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"can-the-navy-move-my-car\"><\/span>Can the Navy move my car?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Does the military ship your car for free? The military may ship your car for free if you&#8217;re an a) active member of the military and b) have received permanent change of station (PCS) orders. The government only pays for one privately owned vehicle (POV) to be shipped, according to the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"will-the-military-pay-for-my-wife-to-move\"><\/span>Will the military pay for my wife to move?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The good news is that the military will pay for your spouse to move as long as you live in the same home together. Depending on the amount of leave you have, your spouse may be the one making most of the moving arrangements.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-the-military-pay-for-gas\"><\/span>Does the military pay for gas?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Defense Logistics Agency buys military fuel for $2.82 per gallon. But that same fuel can cost $13 if it&#8217;s shipped by ground to a forward-deployed location, during peacetime. If it&#8217;s transferred in-flight from a refueling airplane to another aircraft, the gas is $42.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-much-does-navy-pay-per-mile\"><\/span>How much does Navy pay per mile?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The monetary allowance in lieu of transportation rate is $. 22\/mile per authorized POV..<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-the-navy-pay-for-pcs\"><\/span>Does the Navy pay for PCS?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Per Diem for PCS Travel When traveling by Privately Owned Conveyance (POC), military members are paid a flat rate of $142.00 per day for each day of authorized travel used.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-much-will-i-get-for-my-pcs-move\"><\/span>How much will I get for my PCS move?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>And, based on the weight of the household goods you&#8217;re transporting, the government will reimburse you for up to 95% of the estimated cost of your move. So if it ends up costing you less, you get to keep that money. A PPM has benefits and drawbacks.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-happens-if-you-go-over-weight-on-military-move\"><\/span>What happens if you go over weight on military move?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Weight allowances apply to all branches of the military. Movers are paid based on the predetermined weight that&#8217;s authorized. The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command authorizes DOD personnel to include alcohol for personal use in their household good shipments. It is fully funded by the government and is paid out as an annuity for life.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"is-20-years-in-the-military-worth-it\"><\/span>Is 20 years in the military worth it?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The total expected value of retiring at 20 years is worth nearly a million dollars, which means that the last two years of work in uniform are worth roughly half a million each to a typical officer (annual base pay plus half of their retirement stream).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"can-you-live-off-military-retirement\"><\/span>Can you live off military retirement?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Can You Live Off Military Retirement Pay? The short answer is, yes, absolutely. But it takes a lot of planning to make this work. It&#8217;s calculated at 2.5% times your highest 36 months of basic pay.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-do-you-get-after-20-years-in-the-navy\"><\/span>What do you get after 20 years in the Navy?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After completing only 20 years of honorable service, a military retiree would receive 50% of the permanent basic pay. Each year of service thereafter adds an additional 2.5% until 30 years of service is reached, at which the retiree would receive 75% of the permanent basic pay as retirement income.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-much-is-a-20-year-navy-pension\"><\/span>How much is a 20 year Navy pension?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Under this system, your retirement pay is your final base pay times 2.5% for every year of active duty. Under this system, if you retire at 20 years you get 50% of your final base pay.
